Xi'an adds 5 national innovation bases

The China Association for Science and Technology recently announced the list of first batch of 194 "Innovation China" innovation bases, and five are located in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.

They include the Northwest Institute for Non-ferrous Metal Research being named a rare metal material innovation base, Xi'an Jiaotong University named a semiconductor chip testing technological innovation base, CRRC Xi'an Yonge Electric Co named a rail transit and energy equipment innovation base, Xixian New Area Information Industry Park Investment Development Co named a western cloud valley innovation base, and Xi'an Dapu Laser Technology Co named a Xi'an Dapu science and technology industrial park innovation base.

They will focus on key core technology fields and incubating high-quality scientific and technological enterprises to explore a sustainable cooperation mechanism for production, education and research and create a strong innovation and entrepreneurship environment.

Xi'an has sufficient confidence and a solid foundation for the development of scientific and technological innovation.

In February 2022, the city rolled out the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for the Development of Scientific and Technological Innovation, proposing that by 2025 the Silk Road Scientific and Technological Innovation Center will be completed and a national and regional scientific and technological innovation center will be established.

In the first half of this year, the city identified more than 7,900 technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), a year-on-year increase of 12.8 percent.

A total of 70 industry-university-research collaborative innovation activities were held, and the technology contract turnover increased by 45.3 percent year-on-year.

Throughout 2022, Xi'an will work to bring its total number of high-tech SMEs to at least 10,000, and its turnover of technology contracts to over 220 billion yuan ($31.87 billion).
